Star Quest — Privacy Policy

Last updated: 22 October 2026

In short: Star Quest collects nothing. It has no accounts, no advertising and no tracking, and the app sends nothing to us or to anyone else. The profile names a family types in, and each profile's stars and progress, stay in the app's private storage on the device. Star Quest is free to download on Google Play. A one-time unlock or a monthly plan opens the rest, bought by a grown-up through the app store, behind a grown-ups question. We never see payment details.

Who we are

Star Quest is a learning and play app for children: games and activities, animated learning films, illustrated storybooks, short films, and a Talking Cards board that supports a child's own communication. It is published by Plapl Games and is available on Google Play. A version for Amazon Fire tablets is being prepared; this policy covers it too.

Information we collect

Nothing. Star Quest does not collect or send any information about you or your child. In particular, it never collects:

What the app keeps — on the device only — is the small amount of information needed to run:

All of this lives in a private storage area that belongs to the app and that other apps cannot read. None of it is ever sent.

When the app uses the internet

Every game, film, storybook and card, and the narrated audio clips, are bundled inside the app when it is installed. Nothing is downloaded afterwards, and there is no background sync. Star Quest itself never goes online. The only use of the internet is purchases, which are handled by Google Play (or, on a Fire tablet, the Amazon Appstore) through the store's own app on the device.

Without a connection, everything already unlocked keeps working.

Purchases

Star Quest is free to download on Google Play. Families who installed it before 20 October 2026 keep everything open for good. For new installs from that date, all storybooks and Watch & Learn films, and some games, are free for good, and every game is open for a free week. The rest unlocks with a one-time purchase or a monthly plan. The price is shown by the store before you buy. Purchases are made by a grown-up, behind the grown-ups question; a child never sees a price on the way to a game. Families who bought Star Quest before it became free keep everything.

The purchase is handled by Google Play or the Amazon Appstore, under their own privacy policies. We never see card details, names or addresses. The app keeps only whether it is unlocked, and asks the store to confirm that.

Device permissions

Star Quest never shows a permission prompt. It does not ask for the camera, the microphone, photos or storage, location, contacts, or any device identifier. There are no photo cards, no voice recording, no sharing and no chat.

The Google Play version declares Google Play's billing permission, the internet permission and the permission to check whether a network is available. All three are added by Google Play's billing library and are used only for purchases; Star Quest's own code sends nothing. The Amazon version does not declare the internet permission. Android grants these without asking. The merged manifest also contains a signature-level permission that the Android support libraries add to every app; it grants access to nothing and is not shown to the user.

Where your data is stored

Profile names, progress and settings are kept in the app's private storage on the device. They are never uploaded, and there is no account to attach them to.

Children

Star Quest is designed for children and is listed on Google Play with target age groups of 6–8 and 9–12. Much of its content also suits younger children, and it carries Google Play's Teacher Approved badge.

Star Quest collects no personal information from children. There is no account to create, no form to fill in, no chat, no sharing, and no way for the app to contact anyone or be contacted. The profile name a family types in stays on the device and is never sent.

The app contains no advertising of any kind — no banners, no video ads, no behavioural advertising, no advertising identifiers and no advertising software development kits. Purchases, prices and links out of the app are only on grown-ups pages, behind the grown-ups question.

The Talking Cards board included in Star Quest is a picture-communication board that supports a child's own communication, alongside their own talking. Tapping a card plays a narrated clip on the device. It is not a therapy tool and makes no claims to treat, diagnose or cure anything.

Text-to-speech

Some narration in Star Quest uses the device's own text-to-speech engine, which is an Android system service rather than part of the app:

What the engine receives is the text of the story page, film or card being spoken — never the child's name, the profile, or anything the child has done. Speech is produced on the device. The text-to-speech engine belongs to the device's operating system or its manufacturer and is governed by their terms; on most devices it works fully offline. If a required voice is not installed, the app opens the system's voice-installer screen so you can add one; any download that follows is made by the system, not by Star Quest, and only if you choose it.

Third parties

Star Quest contains no advertising, no analytics or tracking tools from other companies, and no social features. The only outside code is the store's own purchase system: Google Play Billing in the Google Play version, Amazon In-App Purchasing in the Amazon version. We do not collect data, so there is nothing to sell or share.

Data security

Profile names and progress never leave the device through the app. They are held in the app's private storage, which Android isolates from other apps. Purchases are secured and processed by the store.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update this page and revise the "Last updated" date above, before the version of the app that needs the change is released. This version describes Star Quest 6.1.

Earlier versions. Star Quest 6.0 and 6.0.1 could send one anonymous count a day, but only if a grown-up said yes in the Family Room. The count had no names and no device or install identifier. Version 6.1 removed it completely, and the server that received the counts was shut down in October 2026, so nothing an older version sends is received any more.
